Well, here we are again, folks. Another restaurant review of Meat & Potatoes (one of my FAVORITE restaurants in Pittsburgh)! 😀 Smartly nestled in the midst of Downtown Pittsburgh‘s Cultural District, in the Cabaret at Theater Square, Meat & Potatoes is truly a Pittsburgh gem! One of the MANY aspects I love about Meat & Potatoes is that the menu is so vast, you could order a completely different meal every time! This dinner just so happens to be that kind of visit.
My Mom and I dined here last month, right before the Eddie Izzard: Force Majeure Saturday show at the Byham Theater. I assisted my Mom with her first appetizer, which was the Fried Chicken Livers (Click the following link for a photo: http://friendlypittsburghfoodie.com/2013/12/23/friendly-pittsburgh-foodies-top-ten-best-restaurant-dishes-of-2013/). Then, I helped my Mom with another appetizer (which was my FAVORITE dish of the night! I’m still kicking myself for not taking a photo): Devils on Horseback! Each “Devil on Horseback” was a date, filled with chorizo and wrapped in bacon. Pittsburgh foodies: you MUST order this the next time you visit Meat & Potaotes. Sooooooo good!
MY first appetizer of the night was Fried Brussel Sprouts (pictured above). VERY good- definitely a different approach to brussel sprouts! Another brussel sprout dish I LOVE is the Crispy Brussel Sprout dim sum at Grit & Grace (also in Downtown). They aren’t serving that dim sum at the moment; hopefully, Grit & Grace will bring it back! Seriously, Pittsburgh foodies, I will help you lobby for this dish to return to Grit & Grace! Any restaurant that can get me to eat brussel sprouts is O.K. in my book! 😉
The main dish: pork belly tacos! 😀 The only other restaurant I’ve had pork belly is at Grit & Grace. Grit & Grace serves a FABULOUS crispy Pork Belly dim sum (my FAVORITE dim sum that they serve)! Meat & Potatoes served the pork belly soft, but I still received the wonderful texture and fatty-ness that one would associate with pork belly.
The pièce de résistance was the Chocolate Pot du Creme (pictured above in all its glory). Words can’t describe.
Post whipped-cream. As Bourdain would say: “oh yeah, baby; the good stuff”!
All-in-all, a wonderful meal! I’m already plotting which dishes to sample next time! X)
Three cheers to good food, fabulous art, and cultural events!
