During the first weekend of July, Anthrocon arrived in Pittsburgh! This year, I made it my own personal mission to meet “the furries”!Β

I forged a plan to treat my Mom and myself to brunch in downtown Pittsburgh and to casually run into the Furries and, you know, perhaps take a few pictures with them. πŸ™‚

I LOVED the Stormy Morning cocktail from Ten Penny! This was the second time I ordered the Stormy Morning cocktail, and it was just as good (perhaps even better) than the first time!Β

Pork Belly Hash from Ten Penny

For brunch, I ordered the Pork Belly Hash.Β Ever since I tried pork belly for the first time at Grit & Grace in January, I’ve been obsessed with anything pork belly! My favorite part of this brunch was dipping the toast through the egg yolk of the sunny side up egg! πŸ˜€ The toast was really good (and the yolk of the egg), but I didn’t care for neither the rest of the sunny-side up egg nor the pork belly. The pork belly tasted like it might’ve been cooked too long. I also wonder if I’m spoiled (when it comes to pork belly)- I’m just used to the way that Grit & Grace and Meat & Potatoes serve their pork belly dishes. :-/

Smoked Salmon
Smoked Salmon brunch

Never fear, dear bloggers! My Mom ordered the smoked salmon brunch and I REALLY liked that! πŸ˜€ I just had a few bits of her smoked salmon, and it was REALLY good! Smoked salmon is one of those foods that I could enjoy any time. πŸ™‚

After lunch, it was time for operation meet the furries! πŸ˜€

Anthrocon 2014

First, I met two very friendly foxes! πŸ˜€

Next, I met a very talkative and amicable furry, who based his character from the T.V. show “The Prisoners”! πŸ˜€

Lastly, I met the two cutest furries of the day: a cat and a dog! πŸ˜€

Switching gears back to brunch: I haven’t given up on Ten Penny quite yet! I will have to return for drinks & dessert (one of my Twitter friends said the restaurant’s desserts are VERY good)! I do enjoy Ten Penny’s Stormy Morning cocktail and the S’mores cocktail! πŸ˜€

Β

That’s all for now, blogging friends!

Three Cheers to good food, wonderful art, and enjoyable cultural events,

  1. We tried 10 Penny for cocktails in June. Pretty good stuff (stormy morning was one of the ones our group had as well.) Much more impressed with their cocktails than the ones at others in that same family of bars/restaurants, so woohoo for that!

Also, if you are lovin pork belly, I can’t recommend Marty’s Market highly enough!! Get there early on a Saturday though because it goes fast. But dang. DELICIOUS!! All respectfully-raised meat, expertly butchered.

    1. Hi Fox: yes! I loved both the Stormy Morning cocktail & the S’mores cocktail from Ten Penny! OOooo nice! I just finished Marty’s Market for the first time last Wednesday (and I LOVED it)! I will definitely have to try the pork belly sometime! Sounds fabulous; thanks for the tip! I hope your husband & you are doing well! πŸ™‚
